In his new show, Evan Ruggiero plays guitar, sings pop standards and shows everybody his fine footwork. What makes all of these especially unusual is that Ruggiero,24,has only one leg.

When he was a 19-year-old musical theater student at New Jersey's Montclair State University, Ruggiero had a rare bone cancer in his right leg. Finally his leg would have to be amputated(截)below the knee.

Such a setback could have easily ended the career of a less tough person, but Ruggiero ,who has been dancing since he was five, now puts the experience into his performance. His show, "The One-Legged Song and Dance Man: Volume 3",explains how he returned to dance just 18 months after the amputation. His dance now relies on the use of a peg leg(假肢),he explains.

The secret to his surprising success, he says, was being a "stubborn" patient who refused to give up on his dance and performing studies, despite the advice of his doctor.

"It was a real setback, but after it was all over, I said, 'You know what? I need to pick up right where I left off and continue my career, "' Ruggiero said.

Ruggiero has come to view his peg leg as an instrument. "Tap dancers-they're always calling themselves musicians, and their feet are their instrument, " he said.

Noting that many audience members will never have seen a one-legged dancer before coming to his

show, Ruggiero says he won't shy away from the physical "weakness" his performance shows because of his condition.

"A lot of people have come up to me, and they always say, 'You're such a role model and an inspiration, '  "he said.   "I'm honored when people say that, of course, but I'm just trying to get on with my life."

21. What makes Ruggiero's new show unusual?

22. According to the passage, it is true that

23. When audience attend his performance, they may notice

24. What's the author's attitude to Evan?

B

Four Must-See Route 66( 66号公路) Attractions

The United States is full of odd roadside attractions. Route 66 is home to some of the oldest and most known attractions of them all. Here are four attractions you should see along the Mother Road:

①Paul Bunyan and a Hot Dog

Route 66 travelers pass by many fiberglass giants(巨人)right along the road. These giants were a popular form of advertising in the 1960s. Many of them stood in front of service stations. They held car parts, such as mufflers. The collection of Route 66 giants became known as   "Muffler Men". Businesses hoped the strange statues would get travelers' attention.

The first fiberglass giant was a  "Paul Bunyan" figure, built in the early 1960s. It's said that Paul Bunyan is a famous wood worker.

②Crown Candy Kitchen and Jamaica Ray

Crown Candy Kitchen has been serving Route 66 travelers from the very beginning. It is just a few short blocks from the 66 path through St. Louis, Missouri. The family-run soda fountain shop opened more than 100 years ago, and has been making candies and meals ever since.

On weekends, people sometimes wait in line for a table at Crown Candy for over an hour. Luckily there is free entertainment right outside. Jamaica Ray, a local folk artist, creates unusual sculptures.

③The World's Largest Rocking Chair

Fanning, Missouri, is home to one of the strangest Route 66 attractions. Just off the road sits an almost 13-meter-tall rocking chair.

The structure was completed in 2008 0n the first of April, or April Fool's Day.

At one time the chair actually rocked. But officials decided it had to be still to be safe for ever. People are not permitted to climb the chair. We think, however, that it probably happens once in a while when no one is watching.

④Big Texan's Steak Challenge

Few places better represent the common expression  "Everything's Bigger in Texas" than the Big Texan Steak Ranch. Since 1960,it has appealed to travelers with big appetites and a big love of beef.

It is hard to miss the huge yellow restaurant-or the giant cow statue that sits out front. The cow advertises Big Texan's special deal, and what has made this steak ranch famous: a "free" 72-ounce(英两 ) or 2-kilogram steak. There is one trick: the steak is only free if you can eat the entire thing in one hour.

A special table is in the middle of the restaurant for the daring diners who accept the challenge. Since 1990,more than 9,000 diners have eaten the entire 2-kilogram steak.

25. What was considered as "Muffler Men"?

26. Where will you maybe wait in line on weekends?

27. If you visit The World's Largest Rocking Chair, you have to

The following simple exercise routine works as well as prescription medication  (药物治疗 ) without the side effects.

A jog a day could keep your headaches at bay: Regular cardio workouts(有氧锻炼) may prevent migraines (偏头痛 ) , a growing body of research suggests.

Migraine patients had fewer headaches after doing 40-minute cycling workouts three times a week for three months, according to a Swedish study.

The exercise routine worked just as well as one of the top migraine-preventing drugs-topamirate but without the side effects of depression and tremors(刺激 ).

Cardio workouts can help with regular headaches, too, says Alexander Mauskop,M.D. ,director of the New York Headache Center in Manhattan.

There are a couple of theories on how it works.

Breaking a sweat may relieve stress, says Dr. Mauskop. Headaches are often triggered by stress, and if you remove the trigger, you release the pain.

The feel-good chemicals produced when you exercise actually block your pain sensors, acting as a natural painkiller.

Since headaches can be caused by many different factors like genetics  (遗传 ),lack of sleep, or certain foods, cardio won't be the solution for everyone, Dr. Mauskop says. But one German study found that it helped 65 percent of patients, which makes it as effective as the best medicines on the market.

Dr. Mauskop recommends his patients do a half-hour reasonable intensity  (强度 )cardio, like jogging, biking, or swimming three times a week. These workouts are meant to be slow and steady, as opposed to high-intensity intervals that alternate between all-out runs and rest.

Pushing yourself too much or increasing the intensity too quickly can trigger headaches in some people, so make sure your heart rate doesn't jump above 150 BPM. If you don't have a heart rate monitor, then breathe only through your nose. You 'Il know you're going too hard if you can't keep up that breathing pattern.

Your migraines could start disappearing in a couple of weeks, Dr. Mauskop says.

Try rubbing  (摩擦 ) the tip of your finger backwards and forwards very quickly on your coat or a blanket. It should become hot. In cold weather we sometimes rub our hands together to make them warm. The rubbing of two together which causes heat is called  "friction"(摩擦力). In the same way, people who lived in caves rubbed a piece of wood shaped like a pencil on another piece of wood with dried leaves or grass packed nearby. The heat set the leaves or grass alight. This was a difficult way of making fire. Better ways were found by using flint(火石),but it was not until 1827 that the first matches were made in England.

Chemists made up a mixture and put it on an end of a stick or match. The mixture contained a small amount of phosphorous (磷),a chemical that bursts into flame when heated slightly. The other chemicals then caught fire and burned less fiercely until the wood was alight. By rubbing the end of the match, on sandpaper, the friction easily set the phosphorous alight. These first matches could also be struck on other rough surfaces, including the leather sole(底)of a shoe.

At the time, everyone thought this was a wonderful invention. Unfortunately accidents happened. A whole box of matches would suddenly catch fire if it was heated. Imagine this happening to someone warming themselves by a fire with a box of matches in his or her pocket! Even loose matches in a handbag or pocket could rub together and catch fire.

What was needed was a match that would only light if struck on a special surface. In 1852,the safety match was invented in Sweden. No phosphorous was used in the match head-it was put on the outside of the matchbox instead. This made it impossible for the match to light unless it was rubbed along the box on the special surface which contained sandpaper mixed with a little phosphorous.

33. Why did people use dried leaves or grass to pack another piece of wood?

34. What did the chemists make the match of in 1827?

35. If we used the safety match, we could see

One of my happiest childhood memories were having dinner with my parents and two sisters. As a result, found that we seldom had a chance to get together, then we decided we would set aside three evenings the week for a sit-down dinner. First we tried setting three fixed days for our experiment-Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays. After a couple of week of trying this plan,  almost everyone was unhappy. For a while, the kids began to resist the idea. They said they would rather to spend the time with their friends or take part in some activities. Gradual, though, they began to see these evenings together for a very different way. We laughed a lot and we discussed about each other's problems. Since a few months, we all felt that we had been able to build much strong relationships with the family than we had before.

My husband and l were enjoying wandering through the stores in a shopping center. We went into a shop that solditems in hopes of finding a few last-minute  gifts. The pleasant smell of handmade soaps teased ouras we walked through the door.

Moving on, I enjoyed looking at other items some salesmen in Santa Clauses in the store carried, found myself being drawn back to the plaque.

Standing in front of the plaque, I felt a little like a child who, when  the sandbox, finds some treasure: a shiny coin or a lost toy. Here among the other handmade items, I found a very  ,yet heart-touching treasure hidden in a message. A message I needed.

"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass," the plaque said," It's about learning toin the rain."

How often in our daily lives have we put    on our happiness? When we get the house, then we can be happy. When things   down with the kids, then we'll be able to do more together. There is sojoy for the here and now in the uncertainties of the whens and thens.

Looking at the plaque, I found myself unknowingly live the plaque's message. Ioff my shoes and stockings in a light  and began walking  through the water. Maybe my neighbors thought that I had lost my  wisdom, but I don't care. For in that moment, I was alive. I wasn't worried about bills, the future or any other day-to-day cares.

The plaque now hangs in my living room. I walk past many times each day and frequently pause to ask myself " So, am I dancing in the rain?" I think I am, I know I try to. I'm  taking time to pause and recognize and be grateful for the blessings that are all around me.

One step  ,I am learning to dance in the rain.
